• Intermittent PIN recognition or “bad code” errors on known-good entries. The membrane switch matrix beneath the buttons develops oxidation at the flex-circuit tails, especially on units installed before 2019. • Visible corrosion on terminal block or green tint on PCB visible through housing vents. Phoenix’s occasional hard rain followed by immediate evaporation creates humidity spikes inside “weatherproof” housings. We see this on north-facing installs in North Phoenix and the Deer Valley corridor where morning condensation lingers.

DIY or Call Us?

Confirm the gate motor responds to other inputs - remote, loop detector, manual release - which proves the problem is isolated to the access device. Check for obvious wire damage at the base of the pillar or post, where landscapers and irrigation crews work.

Where DIY goes wrong: BFT keypads store PINs and proximity card data in non-volatile memory, but the programming sequence varies by firmware revision.
